A spur-of-the-moment spring trip to Bodie State Historic Ghost Town. We made a few stops along the way and camped out in Robinson campground on Twin Lakes Road and had a nice breakfast at the Twin Lakes marina. Great fishing there and just a beautiful place to camp.

Bodie is an interesting town. It looks like the people all just left in a hurry and left all their belongings behind. Furniture, clothing, keepsakes, etc. It must have been hard living out there, there is nothing around for many miles. I suppose when the mine dried up, there was no reason to stay. But they had at least two churches, numerous bars, general stores, mortician, barber, etc. It was a booming little town at one point.

On Friday, March 13 Kam Merzlak and I went on a 3 day excursion to Death Valley. Here are my photos of our trip. and you can find Kam's at Merzlak Photos

We had a great time visiting places like Mono Lake, Twin Lakes, Convict Lake, Death Valley and the Alabama Hills arch rock formations - A lot of John Wayne's westerns were filmed here. We rose at 5 am and hiked out to capture the 3/4 moon setting behind the arch.

Preston Castle "The Beginning" 2006

Welcome to my Pilsner Urquell award series of Preston Castle. Here you will find images of the Preston School of Industry, located in Ione, CA. It sets atop a hill and is hard to miss as you approach Ione from the west side up hwy 104. Once a home for trouble young boys, at one time it housed Rory Calhoun and Merle Haggard. It is also known for its unsolved murder. It happened in the kitchen. Someone murdered a matronly woman in the 1950's. It had since deteriorated and was abandoned by the state of California.

It is now owned by the Preston foundation, a group of volunteers that hold fund raisers to raise the funds necessary to restore the Castle. They finally finished the roof and are now working on the interior.

The Castle will never look like this again and my images are one of a kind. I took my own props to the castle, such as the rocker, the flowers, suite case, doll and other items, I even have captured ghostly figures in the rocker, on the stairs and peering out of the upstairs window. I hope you enjoy this award winning series and thanks for looking.

Poppies Galore!

It's spring in the sierras and wildflowers are everywhere. Particularly the poppies. Electra Rd. near the Mokelumne river has a great array of them. Poppies, lupine, popcorn flowers and many more. Even succulent cactus.
